Description

As a Manufacturing/Process Engineer (with a focus on Product Development projects) you will be responsible for the design and implementation of production concepts in support of both new and newly revised products. Schluter’s “Product Engineering Process” (PEP) is used as the framework for these initiatives, and your expertise in (manufacturing) processes supported by your technical knowledge, innovation, and experience is critical to the successful launch of our products. On a daily basis you will be collaborating with fellow PEP team members, SME’s, and stakeholders throughout our organization to achieve project goals in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to)

Product Design for Manufacturability

  • Lead the development and implementation of new/altered manufacturing processes to produce new products, product improvements or process improvements for existing products. 
  • Collaborate with product design teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability of new products, from design to production to ensure successful project execution and optimization and integration of the production process while minimizing manufacturing costs without sacrificing product quality.

Process Validation

  • Design and execute validation protocols for new processes or process changes to ensure that they meet quality and regulatory requirements. Perform statistical analysis and data interpretation to validate process performance.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Establish and maintain robust quality control procedures to ensure that products meet or exceed customer requirements and industry standards. 
  • Implementation of quality checks, conduct root cause analysis of quality issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions. 
  • Provide leadership in resolving quality issues and implementing corrective and preventive actions.

Documentation and Standards

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process flowcharts. 
  • Ensure that documentation is up to date, controlled, compliant with regulatory standards, and accessible to necessary personnel.

Equipment, Technology Selection and Maintenance

  • Evaluate, select, and implement new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and automation solutions to enhance productivity and competitiveness. 
  • Manage capital projects related to equipment upgrades or installations. 
  • Lead efforts to evaluate, select, and optimize manufacturing equipment, machinery, and tools to improve process performance. 
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure optimal equipment operation.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Oversee the collection and analysis of manufacturing data to identify trends, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and make data-driven decisions. 
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on manufacturing metrics, project status, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and implement Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other best practices to drive continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the manufacturing team and across the organization.

Training and Support

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise in manufacturing engineering disciplines such as process optimization, automation, robotics, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing. 
  • Mentor and coach engineers to develop their technical skills and capabilities. Share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned to support professional growth and development within the team.

Supplier Collaboration and Partnerships

  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve material quality, reduce lead times, and optimize supply chain logistics. 
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key suppliers to drive innovation, improve overall supplier performance, and enhance the resilience of the supply chain.

Project Management/Leadership

  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects to improve manufacturing processes, launch new products, or implement strategic initiatives. 
  • Including planning, executing, and monitoring project activities to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and direction in cross-functional projects and initiatives.

Team Leadership/Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to engineers and manufacturing personnel. 
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the team. 
  • Share expertise and best practices to develop the skills of team members.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks to manufacturing operations and develop mitigation strategies to minimize downtime, quality issues, and safety hazards. 
  • Implement measures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Requirements

  • 10 – 15 years’ experience in Process/Manufacturing Engineering 
  • Excellent leadership, people, and project management skills.
  • Strong technical skills with a foundation/experience in mechanical systems, heat transfer and thermodynamics, fluid power systems, electrical systems (electrical circuits, instrumentation, PLC, etc.), manufacturing processes, and automation concepts.
  • Working knowledge of engineering software packages 
  • Proper use of metrology equipment (specifically calipers, micrometers, optical comparator a plus)
  • Strong Problem solving and root cause decision making experience required
    • Utilizes structured rapid problem-solving techniques including A3, 8D, DMAIC, fishbone, etc to efficiently navigate through thorough and rapid root-cause understandings
    • Experience in using data to educate and align organizational decisions.
    • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
    • Detail-oriented for understanding complex systems
  • Fundamental understanding and experience implementing Lean / Six Sigma tools a plus
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Experience in working with and motivating people at all positions (hourly to executive)
    • Active listener with the ability to observe and ask questions to understand the situation / problems and be always supportive and non-judgmental.
    • Lead by example – “Walk the talk.” - add into teamwork bullet
  • A “hands-on” self-starter with strong collaboration and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (word, powerpoint, excel, visio)
    • Willingness to adapt and learn new skills to increase efficiency

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base pay offered will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for additional benefits to the base pay range listed above.
